As a prior English teacher, I love telling each of my couple's love story. Each story is unique and in a culmination of love and a little planning, the wedding day brings that love to life in front of family and friends. As a lover of heirlooms and legacies, it's a joy to be alongside each of my couples as they create memories that will last forever for their children and grandchildren!

Joan & Brad | Married | Fall Jewel-Toned Wedding at the Winery at Bull Run | Manassas, Virginia

back to blog

Joan and Brad were married on the most beautiful fall day at the end of September at the Winery at Bull Run. Joan is a nurse in the Navy, and their wedding was one of the last things they were doing on the east coast before heading to her new duty station in California! Joan is from Missouri and Brad is from New York, so these two celebrated their love with their families from all over the nation.

When Joan mentioned her bridesmaids dresses were going to be jewel-toned, I couldn’t quite visualize it in my mind. But as her bridesmaids arrived at the venue, I saw the vision all coming together. The gowns paired so well with the deep blue of the groomsmen’s suits.

One of my favorite parts about Joan and Brad’s day was their first look. I know I have said it before, but truly…if I could change one thing about my own wedding day, it would be that Caleb and I had a first look. The quiet pre-ceremony moments where it is just the bride and groom (and me, of course!) are truly irreplaceable. After talking to Brad just before the first look, his anticipation was palpable. He sort of bounced around on his toes as he tried to stay calm. But once he saw his bride, he was. It was so sweet to see the two of them full of joy and simultaneously become peaceful after seeing one another.

Joan’s brother, Henry, officiated their wedding ceremony. This is now a family tradition, as he had officiated Joan’s twin brother’s wedding just a couple years before. Seems like the rest of the siblings will now have to follow suit!

Once the reception began, it was a party! Some crowds are quiet, but Joan and Brad’s families…no chance! I love seeing both sets of parents, the bridal party, siblings of the bride and groom all out on the dance floor dancing together. FarAway, the live band, was incredible and kept the party going all the way up until the end. You will have to scroll to the bottom to see Joan and Brad’s last dance before they departed on their wedding night.

Thank you to both families and especially to Joan and Brad for having me along for their wedding day! I wish them the best as they embark on their first adventure as a married couple in California!
