Tierney & Danny | Married | Harry Potter Themed Backyard Fall Micro-Wedding | Silver Spring, Maryland

Tierney and Danny are a sweet couple that hold a special place in my heart because they are also a military couple. Danny is in the Navy and proudly serves our country. Whenever a service member gets married in their uniform, my heart does a little happy dance.

Just like most 2020 couples, their wedding plans evolved from what they originally were. Despite that, their genuine love shined through…their love for one another, as well as their families love for them as a couple. They pivoted to still get married within the church on their original wedding date of 10/10/2020, which happened to be the most popular date of the year. It’s so funny how certain dates are extremely popular wedding dates and that they surface every few years…the year Caleb and I got married the popular date was 12/13/14!

Danny and Tierney had a Harry Potter themed wedding with subtle accents that alluded to the famous series (a girl after my own heart—I’m a Ravenclaw, in case anyone was wondering!). Tierney and the bridesmaids’ bouquets were made from Harry Potter books; their champagne glasses were engraved with “After all this time?” and “Always,” which is a quote from the series about Snape’s love for Harry’s mother, Lily; and their cake topper adorned the “Always” with the deathly hallows as the “A.” The Harry Potter decor was intertwined with small touches of fall decor as well, that truly brought out their season during which they got married.

One thing was true throughout the day—the people that Danny and Tierney have in their lives are kind and are there to stay. The priest that married them was a family friend that knew Tierney’s late mother. He said he could feel her in the service that day, and then lightheartedly said that she was telling him to keep it short and sweet. Laughter filled the church at the sweet mention of her mother. He also spoke about the Lord’s providence and how it was “meant to be” that these two met one another. They met while moving and didn’t think they could make it work…but the Lord brought them back together!

Sentimentality was sprinkled throughout the day. Tierney and her sister both wore their mother’s jewelry to keep her near their hearts on such a special day. Danny also incorporated a special item by wearing a sword that was given to him by dear friends for which he officiated their marriage ceremony. Small details like these are what makes wedding days so special to me. There’s no way to replicate the sentiment and heartfelt love these two are surrounded by!

Their reception took place in Tierney’s father’s backyard where they shared their first dance. They danced (and laughed) to the song “Sleep Without You” by Brett Young. Yes, of course it is a sweet song as the man sings about how he can’t sleep without his wife, but the part that was even better—the song was paired with a surprise compilation of pictures of Danny sleeping in random places…seriously! Tierney had enough photos of him sleeping in random places to last the entire song. Everyone was laughing, and I love the lightheartedness of their relationship. A couple who knows how to have fun together is one that is meant to be, just like the priest said!

While Danny and Tierney weren’t able to go on their Irish honeymoon, they were still able to get away for a few days to the lake, which was so well deserved after planning a wedding through a pandemic and enduring the long distance that the Navy required. Here’s to you, Tierney & Danny!
