These beauties are Sophia and Avery Craig—two sweet, spunky sisters that will seriously make you smile! Their momma is my cousin, Brittany. We had this session planned during the summer at the beach in my backyard (not literally, but I wish), but it rained the entire week that they were visiting, unfortunately. We made up for it on this crisp, yet still warm fall day right at their home in Charlottesville, Virginia.
Dance parties, chickens, playhouses, bikes, wheelbarrows, a [loving and patient] dog, crunchy leaves, and cardboard boxes were all used in the making of this session. And no one got hurt, might I add! I love capturing children in their natural habitat. While it’s nice to have a few of the posed pictures where they are perfectly sitting and prepped, something about a good ol’ crazy roll-in-the-grass photograph is irresistible to me!
This session was sort of split into two mini-sessions. We got all of our sweet, smiling posed images, then we pulled out the cardboard sleds. This really brought back memories because Brittany and I used to do the exact same thing! Why do all members of our family need a cardboard sled, you ask? Well, my grandma’s house is on top of a steep hill. When I say steep, I mean you had better put your emergency brake on whenever you park in her driveway, just in case. She has this big, green, grassy hill that is daunting even as a 25-year-old, so when you’re five, it seems like it’s the biggest hill in the world. You get a running start at the top (if you’re daring enough) and jump onto your cardboard sled and fly down the hill while saying a prayer that you don’t skin your knees too terribly bad when you hit the sidewalk at the bottom!
I know I’m getting you guys all excited to see the fun that was had/you are now reminiscing on your own grandma’s house as a youngster. So without further ado…Sophia and Avery Craig, everyone!
